Unique Travel Bugs

By Jerry Carter, aka El Diablo

In the early days we called them “Hitch Hikers;” they were much like the travel bugs today, only without a tracking number. Today there are over 100,000 travel bugs that are currently active. As you can imagine given the ingenuity of cachers today they have come up with some very unique ones. The following is just a small sample of some very unique travel bugs that are currently moving about.

Traveling Nonnie Cookie

Traveling Nonnie Cookie

The goal of the cookie is to travel to all 50 states. You can read the details of this travel bug here. It looks like it already has a good start on its goal.

Memorial to Jeremy Oakly

Walkabout

This travel bug is a memorial to Jeremy Oakly on the ultimate Walkabout. Its goal is to visit as many national parks and forest as possible, and to travel through the lives of the cachers that help move it along. This unique travel bug can be found here.

The next travel bug on our list was featured in the very first on-line issue of Today’s Cacher.

Cindy Tommy the Tire

Cindy

Cindy is owned by UMC and has traveled almost 2700 miles at the time of this writing. You can read about her exploits here.

UMC not only has Cindy as a unique travel bug, he also has Tommy the Tire.

Tommy has traveled over 1300 miles.

This next Travel Bug is owned by 4Agers. I had the privilege of producing this very unique TB.

Caching Karma Stick

This is the Caching Karma Stick and has traveled almost 5,000 miles. It’s a full size hiking staff that has a TB embedded in it. Originally it traveled from North Carolina to Ohio from cacher to cacher in order to reach its owner 4Agers. Every cacher that helped move it on signed their name on the staff. Also every cacher that handled it was rewarded with good caching karma.

Shortly after 4Agers received the staff he was transferred to Arizona. He sent the Karma Stick ahead to be waiting when he got there. Last report shows it in Colorado. Some of the biggest names in the caching community have held this staff. You can check out the logs here.

Last but certainly not least is one of the most unique travel bugs ever.

You can read about this one in the printed issue coming out in June.
