A group of dedicated geocachers is planning a cleanup project in the Sale Creek, Tenn. area. The area is part of Tennessee's Cumberland Trail State Park (visit the website @ cumberlandtrail.org), a linear state park going from Signal Point National Military Park (see Cypher Point cache-GCB31F) just north of Chattanooga to the Cumberland Gap at the Kentucky border. The project area, along Rock Creek, was used in years past (1960s and '70s) as a dump site; as a volunteer for the Cumberland trail, I saw the need for a C.I.T.O. I first approached my fellow cacher, a ranger for the park, Andy CTSPRanger Wright and he agreed to work with me on the project. We scoped out an area around the new Rock Creek segment trailhead and found, in addition to the usual trash and litter a dryer, several piles of roofing shingles, glass bottles and jars, a car seat, a pile of cinder blocks, a truckload of #10 steel cans ... you get the picture.
