The mission of Northern New York Geocachers (NNYGeo) is to increase awareness, appreciation and enjoyment of geocaching in Northern New York. NNYGeo was formed in 2004, and has almost 90 members. Activities of NNYGeo include online forum and chat opportunities, geocaching events and activities, and geocaching-related education and outreach.
1 NNYGeo distributed 40 Yellow Jeep Travel Bugs last summer as a part of that program; a large number of the YJTBs are still active in caches in New York State and beyond.
2 NNYGeo hosted an event in January with a lunch and discussion of how to sustainably geocache within the Adirondack Park.
3 NNYGeo hosted a CITO event on April 16, 2005, which resulted in hundreds of pounds of garbage being cleaned from a beautiful spot, some new members joining the geocaching community and an abundance of good press for geocaching through TV and newspaper coverage of the event.
4 The NNYGeo Web site provides a forum for discussion of geocaching and a variety of useful links for geocachers, both newcomers and experienced.
Please join us in working to enhance geocaching in Northern New York. Membership will cost you nothing, and the benefits to us all will be huge.
