Bewitched and Bothered

By Neos2

Behind the SunMy husband was seriously spooked out by the area around the Behind the Sun cache. We had read the logs, and wondered what sort of place would elicit those kinds of responses. We drove there, not knowing what to expect...

We didn't come in the front way, or we would have realized what kind of place we were in. As we got close, we started noticing that all the houses nearby had signs on them that said things like Dr. Susan Smith, spiritualist; Dr. Heidi Jones, medium; Dr. Jane Doe, Tarot and Palm reading...

The whole place was preternaturally quiet. There were some kids out playing, and they just looked at us when we drove by, didn't say a word, we never heard a sound out of them! It was like something out of "Children of the Corn".

There was a shop that sold herbs and charms...an art gallery, an information centre...in other words, an entire community that looked like it was set up to cater to New Wave Wiccans and this was in central Indiana!

My husband was afraid to park and get out. I talked him into it, but he was somber and very very quiet the whole time we were there (he is a loud, ex-heavy metal bass player, turned trucker; NOT the quiet type at all!). He barely spoke above a whisper.

There was a trail that lead down to where the cache was, and along the way, we saw a set of tables and chairs (about 30) made of stone that looked like a field of mushrooms...a fairy ring of mushrooms, a totem pole, a burial chamber that looked like a cairn, and a meditation chamber that has an eternal fire burning in it. The cache was located by a series of stone busts of ancient 'philosphers' and 'spiritualists'...

When I got home, I looked up the history of the place and found out that it was even more controversial in earlier years...

Really spooky...but fascinating!
