October is a wonderful month for geocaching. The temperatures are cooler, the bugs are less active, fall colors are everywhere, and love is in the air. At least it is in New Brunswick, Canada, where, in a span of two days, two cachers left their girlfriends at cache sites and left with fiances.
aquanut2 had been searching for "the right cache" to complete his plan, and found it on October 8, 2004. "I figured that it was fitting that I make a geo- caching trip for Coquillage extra special considering that we went caching on our first date just over a year ago," he wrote in the Thinking of View log book. Ironically, a previous finder left a container of bubbles resembling a bottle of champagne, which added to the celebratory nature of the cache. "I wasn't disappointed with the cache, with the view, and most of all by hearing "YES" from Coquillage. Finding the "champagne" in the cache was just icing on the cake. This is one cache that I'll always remember for obvious reasons. Coquillage and I plan on spending many more wonderful days caching together. TFTH and most of all TFTF (thanks for the fiance)."
coquillage's surprise, enthusiasm, and affection are evident in her log entry. "It's just over one year since I went on my first cache with my sweetheart Aquanut2. I not only fell in love with caching at that time, I also fell in love with my sweetheart! A beautiful fall evening for a cache with such a view. This was actually the ultimate cache for me. Although this seemed like our typical adventure, once we located the cache, things took a surprising turn. Aquanut2 tossed me a mood ring to put into the container as I was signing the logbook, then the next thing I knew, he was kneeling in front of me with a beautiful jewelry box that looked
suspiciously like a RING box...he was proposing! WOW! I pretty much fell over. No offence, but whatever was in that cache container really didn't matter anymore, but I figured I may as well take a look. What to my wondering eyes did appear, but a tiny bottle of "Celebration Bubbles"... WOW! Bizarre! What a perfect day! And oh ya, I definitely said "YES"!"
Just two days later, on October 10, FunD made arrangements to "pop the question" while spending the weekend camping and caching with friends and his girlfriend at Goose River. FunD wrote, "On Sunday morning, I woke earlier than the others to go find the cache. Although the others were not aware what I was doing, I found the cache. I wanted to propose my love to my girlfriend, so I decided to use this geocache to do it. I wrote a nice message to her in the logbook asking her to marry me. I also added the engagement ring to the cache."
He then returned to camp, after which the group set out to find the cache. When his girfriend found it, she began to read aloud the entries in the log book. "When she got to my entry, she did not notice my handwriting because I had disguised it. She began to read the short message and burst into tears of joy. On one knee, I had the contents of the cache spread out on the ground. I then put the ring on her finger and she exclaimed "yes"! My fiance was totally suprised and thrilled with the proposal. We ended up having a great weekend."
