A group of geocachers in the Happisburgh area of the United Kingdom will donate £625 to the Royal National Lifeboat Institution this month, in response to a life-threatening theft that recently occurred.
According to the BBC, thieves broke into an RNLI lifeboat station in Norfolk and stole essential rescue gear including radios, night-vision binoculars and global positioning system (GPS) equipment.
The geocachers will present the check to the RNLI Nov. 6 as part of a geocaching event (Happisburgh RNLI Cache Bash ) listed on geocaching.com. The event, organized by Cave Troll and Joan, will originate at the Happisburgh lifeboat station and will progress to the Hill House pub, a favorite haunt of Sir Arthur Conan Doyle, the creator of Sherlock Holmes. Geocaching tales and travel bug swaps are expected to flow as freely as the ale and cuisine at the pub.
The organizer of the event asks that those planning to attend RSVP to the cache page.
