aka Amy and Adam's Dad
Amy's Fairy (TB3ADE) was hatched in the autumn of 2002 in our garden near Winchester, England. At the time our daughter Amy was eight and quite obsessed with fairy creatures. In fact she really looked forward to loosing teeth, more for the lovely notes the fairies left her rather than the money! Amy often left little meals and gifts for the fairies in the garden and they always left her a delightful thank you note in return.
Whilst all this was going on Amy and Adam's Dad was planning an advent calendar cache. The idea was to fill this with 24 Christmas presents and find a suitable location in Southern England. A bit of research led him to Christmaspie, a delightfully named village near Guildford. A collection of Christmas gifts was amassed, wrapped and labelled but it still needed that something special, and then, as if by magic, along came Amy's Fairy! Our "A Slice of Christmas Pie" cache GCAF37 was complete.
After much debate, fuelled by mulled wine and mince pies Amy's Fairy decided she wanted to spend Christmas 2002 on a Cacher's Christmas tree.
We planted the cache and obtained prompt approval, ready for 1st December, from Tim and June.
Who would be our first visitor?
Would they take home Amy's Fairy?
Would they have a Christmas Tree?
We didn't have to wait long. "The Hornet", a well known UK cacher swept in and grabbed Amy's Fairy on 4th December, and she spent Christmas 2002 on his Christmas tree. There is a photograph on the travel bug page to prove it!
Masher and Pharisee lent a hand next, and it must be said this Fairy seems to have charmed them both. Gaz helped with a trip to the lovely Lake District. It was here in March 2003 that Sky Dancer & Honi Bear assisted and the mileage took a leap as she flew over The Atlantic to North Carolina. Amy exchanged emails with Sky Dancer & Honi Bear for a few weeks as she thought the photographs they posted were great.
Then it was onto to Florida (Disney's Magic Kingdom), Missouri, Washington and California where CompuRanger retrieved her from Forbes Mill Cache and a little Fairy dust helped his wife get better in Hospital!
She joined the Girls Scouts thanks to Rootroof in August and at the moment the GeoCrickets are looking after our little friend, over 8,000 miles later.
Amy's Fairy ultimate mission is to visit Copenhagen, the home Hans Christian Anderson, author of 168 fairy tales written between 1835 and 1872. However she loves making new friends and helping to entertain all those girls Amy's age who help the grown ups find cache boxes.
As far as we are concerned we all believe in Fairies. We also believe that Geocachers will go to any lengths, time, trouble and sometimes expense to help a travel bug, and we are very grateful to them all.
In the meantime Adam has now created his own "Adam's Christmas Penguin" Travel Bug and that set off from the same Christmas Cache in 2003, but that's another story!
Happy Christmas Everyone from Amy and Adam and their Travel Bug Friends!
