We are N.U.T.S. and proud of it. N.U.T.S. is an acronym meaning "Northstate Unusual Treasure Seekers" We are a loosely organized group of geocaching enthusiasts who have come together to share our love of this unique hobby here in Northern California.
We had our first get together in Paradise, CA. on November 9, 2003. rock&crystal put together the first event cache and nearly 30 geocachers showed up. We had no idea at the time we were "N.U.T.S.", but eventually that's what we would become.
Our second event cache was held in Oroville, Ca on February 28, 2004, a pizza party hosted by rock&crystal and the Escapades. Over 60 people attended as our group was growing. We had a contest to name our group and N.U.T.S. was the name chosen. Buster1 was the man who came up with this name of distinction, which we proudly bear. Old Hippy created a N.U.T.S. logo and Yar? Yar! volunteered to set up a web page for the group.
On March 14, 2004 the N.U.T.S. had their first C.I.T.O. event hosted by FireDawn, a 9 mile roundtrip hike to Feather Falls to pick up trash along the trails. This is a long hard hike but the reward was seeing a 640 foot high waterfall and finding a couple of geocaches. Sixteen people made the trek and it will be long remembered by all.
The fourth N.U.T.S. get-together moved up north to Redding, CA. on May 23, 2004; a barbeque bash hosted by Kokopeli, cache_us_if_you_can, where am I, and Phone Guy. This event was a big success with everyone having a fun day trading stories, eating good food, and finding caches. There were over 50 people attending this event coming from as far away as the San Francisco bay area.
On July 17, 2004 FireDawn hosted "N.U.T.S. in Buffalo Chips, a pizza party event in the small town of Westwood, CA located between beautiful Lake Almanor and Susanville. There were a lot of new N.U.T.S at this event, which made it fun for the old time N.U.T.S. because we had a new audience for our old stories.
Next, we returned back to Oroville, CA in August for Chinese Dragon N.U.T.S, an event hosted by "Escapades" and Team Private Eyes. This was a Chinese buffet with good food and a large banquet room reserved for our group. The N.U.T.S. headed to Rotary Park after dinner for a GPS competitive game and root beer floats for dessert.
The seventh and most recent N.U.T.S event was a Return to Paradise Pizza Event, hosted once again by rock&crystal" on October 16, 2004. This was another successful event as the N.U.T.S. group just keeps on growing. There were many of the newest members in our area present and a fun time was had by all.
There are presently 66 members/families signed up on the N.U.T.S. web page. The freshman year of the N.U.T.S. has been a huge success. We have had many great events, friendships have formed, and many caches have been hidden and found.
We are lucky to live in such a great area for exploring the outdoors. There are caches of every imaginable type and level of difficulty here in Northern California.
We are N.U.T.S. and proud of it.
