So, you've discovered the new hobby of caching, or actually, by now, it may be an old hobby. I've read and heard people talk, tongue-in-cheek, about the addiction of the hobby. Caching is like any other hobby/game/sport; it can become a major part of your life. There are people out there who can't go a day without caching; there are others that have to post in the forums every day. The sad part is that, as much fun as this game can be, it can also be very destructive to your everyday life.
I personally know of two people who became so obsessed with caching that it almost ruined their lives. It almost cost one his job and the other his family. Neither of them go caching at all any more. I know you may be reading this and thinking that I'm being extreme, but it happens; probably more than you realize. This is just a friendly reminder to keep things in perspective. Caching can be a great way for families to spend time together, but it can also be the cause of family separation.
If you find yourself coming home late or spending weekends away from your family or friends just to cache, then maybe you have taken this a bit too far. Have you ever called in sick or been late to work so that you could be the first to find a new cache? How about putting off the "Honey-do list" so you can go caching? Ever miss one of your kids' sporting games because you wanted to go caching? All of these are just a few of the warning signs that you have taken this sport/hobby/game to an unhealthy level.
Like I said, you may think I'm being extreme. Prove me wrong. Ask your family and friends what they think about your hobby/sport/game. Then, you decide. It might be time to make a slight adjustment in your life before it's too late.
